The Environmental Geopolitics Research Group (EGRG), directed by Dr. Bilal Butt at the University of Michigan, serves as a common platform for graduate students interested in the intersection between critical social science approaches and perspectives and the study of environmental conflict and violence. We rely on complementary approaches in environmental/ecological anthropology, critical resource geography, critical political ecology, environmental justice, and science and technology studies. Our group comprises undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. students working around the world. Students in our group have published in a variety of journals, including Energy Research and Social Science, One Health, Journal of Applied Ecology, and Africa, among others.
The group meets to discuss term papers, thesis ideas, proposal and grant writing, and other topics that are intended to benefit all students.
